If you desire healing…
On New Year's Eve, while the husband and I were waiting for a video to stream on the telly, a small factoid appeared on the screen:
"According to Google, the most searched query in 2021 was 'how to heal'.
Huh.
This gave me pause, and I'm not sure why - besides the random nature of that tiny bit of info - given all that people are dealing with in the world right now.
I mean, of course people are asking this question.
It's a BIG relevant question - and implies questions within questions, regarding the meaning of 'heal', and 'how', and less obvious, but just as important, 'why'.
Besides the fact that THAT question has been the primary preoccupation of my life for the last three and a half decades - and I'm sure for many others as well, but for different reasons - it gave me a little hope.
I mean, that we have to ask at all is a reminder of where we currently are, but I truly believe that the asking is the beginning of healing.
But, again, what is it to heal?
And heal what?
As a popular google search phase, we can assume there are a more than a few people approaching this.
I envisioned thousands upon thousands of hands on keyboards and devices, typing those words into the virtual sphere, hoping for answers, insights, relief - for themselves or loved ones, and it made me take a slightly deeper breath.
I do not claim to have 'answers'; (other than getting off google and the computer altogether for a while might be a great start)...
.. but maybe even more questions.
Because, while 'healing', 'health', 'wholeness', and other such words seem self-explanatory - as well as how to attain such states - there are some fundamental assumptions that would be worth examining.
Some self-inquiries for starters:
What I do believe/know/trust about the human body - is it just 'material' or does it contain multitudes - like Consciousness, however one defines that (it's worth noting that the former view is fairly recent...)?
And, if the latter, how does focusing on 'healing' one facet of my being affect the health of the others?
Is healing a matter of eliminating symptoms, regulating 'numbers' and 'stats', or supporting intelligent and self-regulating systems to organize coherently?
What is the purpose of life - the answer of which may lead to another difficult question: can a true healing path also include death?
Now more than ever (the other most-googled phrase)…
… these may be the most critical (and hopefully, interesting) questions we can explore.
Clearly, this is also a huge topic for further discussion.
